iPad Art by Hockney

Hockney is exhibiting his "paintings" of flowers on iPads. The exhibition is called fresh flowers because he draws at 6am and by 7am the finished art is sent to the iPads on the exhibition wall in Paris.
Fresh art on digital poster spaces?

Sounds like teen spirit

In classic triumph-over-tragedy broadsheet-featurette style, director Jamie Jay Johnson came up with the idea for this film after a horrific car accident that left him with two severly crushed legs.

Whilst stuck at home learning to walk again, he stumbled across the charming Junior Eurovision and spotted the opportunity to tell the contestants' stories. So he got up and travelled around Europe finding the little heartbreakers who would make good watching. Have a look at the trailer here.

It's being lauded as the next slumdog/ lil' miss sunshine, and Jonathan Ross described it as a "burst of cynicism free europop.".

JJ tells me he applied for a job here when he came out of art school. I think we might have missed out on this one...

Jamie is doing a Q&A at the Brixton Ritzy on Thursday night, and again at the Curzon Soho on Saturday night. I recommend you go. If you can't get down there to see it, buy the soundtrack. No I'm not kidding.

Routes Game from Channel4

The main issue being tackled here is to get teens interested in science and since the nations teachers can't seem to do that job Channel 4 has decided to raise awareness of genetics and bio-ethics amongst 14-19-year olds with a new project, Mind’s Eye’s, an interactive drama/thriller for Channel 4, reaches its audience via online, broadcast and live events.

The project, fronted by Katherine Ryan, investigates the human genome by taking a DNA test. We follow her story over 8 weeks she subjects herself to a series of genetic tests to help uncover what's hidden in our genes, such as sexuality, personality and diseases. However, all is not as it seems and over the course of 8 weeks a story develops that nobody could have seen coming.

Routes, aims to engross and involve the audience on a much deeper level. The fact that it is a show that is based around learning about science is neither here nor there. With it run across multiple websites, live events and mobile as well as the TV channel itself it aims to conquer a variety of channels in order to form an infotainment assault on its core audience. This audience are all media saavy and are a generation brought up with social networking, mobile phones and the internet, a programme like this is only encouraging them to mobilise and get really involved with the show on a deeper level and this sort of engagement can only help the learning process become more interesting and meaningful.

Register below to get involved and play along.

There is a great article on Contagious about our Channel 4 Routes project.
Charlie Phillips directed all of the video content for the project, which runs for 8 weeks across TV, online, mobile, gaming and live events.

A little known band

Although it's not 100% functional yet, I thought I'd share with you with my brief foray into web design.
www.lunariot.com
(In view of the current economical climate it may be of interest that to date I've spent £100 in total on getting it to it's current state.)
Any feedback is more than welcome, as long as it's primary function is telling us how great we are.
you may also be interested to hear that we'll be performing this Friday at 8pm at the Monto Water Rats Theatre. All welcome.

Amongst jollities such as a St Luke's community art piece, we're proposing the biggest, best ever cake off. St Luke's staff are invited to bake a cake and the winning cake will be the one that is sold the quickest.

More importantly, we will also need volunteers to help man (get drunk behind) the stall, pls email names to Emily.

She Says

Last night’s monthly women's only digital advertising event - run by the gals at She Says - looked at the fusion between art and advertising, with speakers from experiential installation agencies Body> Data>Space, Jason Bruges, Digit and Take 2030. Exciting stuff.

Pic above shows Jason Bruges’ memory project for 02 – an interactive installation piece that prompts discussion around how we capture and store digital memories.

The next She Says is at the end of August and looks at ‘Search’, with speakers from Google, Microsoft and Yahoo. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll put your name down.

Shambala

I went to this festival last year - its really good fun and there's tickets left for this year incase any of you fancy it...

"Shambala is a wild, creative, low-profile, green and family-friendly festival. We have endeavoured to cultivate a down-to-earth mix of creativity, the unexpected, a warm & friendly atmosphere, and quality entertainment. We offer plenty of stuff to get involved with, cinemas, many workshops, dance, spritual, craft, loads of kids activities, circus performance, talks, sauna, cafes, massive site art, a lovely crowd and a lot of suprises!"

The festival is completely independent from advertising and sponsorship! Having never promoted it, Shambala has grown through word of mouth.

Dance-powered eco nightclub

On July 10, Club4Climate, an eco group led by real-estate magnate Andrew Charalambous, will launch a new sustainable nightclub at Bar Surya in King’s Cross. In addition to using a dance floor that captures enough energy to supply 60 percent of its power needs, the club will require that all patrons sign a pledge to help fight global warming; it will also waive the £10 admission fee for those who can prove they travelled there by foot, bicycle or public transport. Low-voltage lighting and recyclable materials will be used throughout the club, which will reportedly also serve organic spirits in polycarbon cups and employ a recycled-water system for flushing the toilets. Club4Climate hopes to open similar sustainable dance clubs in New York, Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro, and has partnered with gap year organization Projects Abroad for the manpower to do that, according to its site. Part of Club4Climate's profits will be donated to Friends of the Earth. Learn more here.

Hide and Seek

If you want to induldge with your inner lost child, get down to the Southbank Centre this weekend. Be one with the crowd of flash mobbers, social gamers and psycho art projects. Expect wierdness, frivolity and a whole load of fun. There'll be loads of sparky ideas for us to reinterpret and use. And it might feed into the St Luke's photography project that's going on this month.
