Time to dust off the awards cabinet!

It's not every day that an advert for a feminine hygiene product is mentioned in the same breath as ones for Nike, BMW or the award hoarding awareness campaign 'Dumb Ways to Die.' However, we're delighted to say that our Mooncup 'Rap Battle' won Bronze for 'Best Original Song' at the London International Awards (LIA) awards in November.

The London based awards celebrate the creativity and power of ideas in all forms of advertising, digital, branded content, design, production, music and sound. The lyrical flow of our rap battle and its unconventional content stood out amongst some pretty hefty competition, and we're delighted with our bronze trophy.

And the winning doesn't stop there! Our Moments of Truth campaign for Strongbow, which launched earlier this year has also just won a Silver in the Epica Awards in the drinks category.

They say things come in threes, and here is our final win (for the moment!) Our Business Director Jonathan Dale has been crowned winner of The Biggr Picture, a competition run by Campaign and Flickr to find the most talented 'extra curricular' Adlander. We're very proud of Jonathan's culinary achievements and his star feature in this week's Campaign.

Our latest piece of work builds on our previous Rap Battle which launched in January. Allow us to present the Tampon vs Mooncup finger puppet beermats!

The new beermats have an image of one the of Tampon vs Mooncup girls on the front, a couple of finger holes, a quote of lyrics on the back and QR codes for you to scan to reach the original Rap Battle on YouTube and also the Rap Battle Boombox so you can create your own rap to the beat. Mooncup want to see your attempts so get sharing on Facebook and Twitter!

For those of you lucky enough to have been at Glastonbury, you may have seen the Mooncup crew there, giving out the new beermats and playing Face in a Hole as shown below.

However, for the rest of us, the mats will be live in pubs and bars across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Brighton, Sheffield and Bristol from this week!

Mooncup: the Slammers' opinions.

Now, we know we’ve mentioned the plethora of reactions to our Tampon vs Mooncup viral before on this blog, but there is one in particular that we’d like to share in a little more detail.

Chella Quint is New York expat, who now lives in Sheffield and a writes a blog entitled “Adventures in Menstruating.” She’s an active public speaker, has given a TedX talk about periods and the representation of sanitary protection in advertising, and is also well acquainted with poetry slammers. She combined these talents, along with asking fellow slammers for their opinions about our Rap Battle, and has displayed them in a blogpost, which comes to some extremely interesting analytical conclusions about how we portray the Tampon and Mooncup relationship, such as:

"As the Tampon Crew started the rap battle, it’s showing how those companies are quietly bullying us all into using what’s already widely known, and trying to bully other options out of the market by going, ‘Ew weird reusable femcare go away.’ So if anyone wakes up to that, the ad’s done a great service. Mooncup had good rhymes, and great lines such as ‘we only collect from the menstrual flow’ and ending the ad with ‘no strings attached’ is great wordplay."

It's a hit!

After launching our Tampon Vs Mooncup Rap Battle last week, we knew it was going to get people talking. I mean, who wouldn’t have a reaction to a viral rap battle about periods? After over 130,000 views on YouTube it has sparked conversation within the advertising industry, as well as amongst the public on Twitter, Facebook and blogs. Opinions have been coming in thick and fast, ranging from incredulity, to ingenuity and insanity– but we welcome them all!

What we welcome most of all though, is when our work gets a nod from a well-respected industry publication such as Marketing, which it has done today. Wahey! We feature in their “Viral Hit or Miss” section (page 13), and with a score of 7/10 and descriptions such as “a catchy beat, funny, informative and smartly edited” we’re pleased to say it’s a hit!

If you haven’t seen the viral yet, check it out here, pick a side, share and keep the conversation flowing #TamponvsMooncup.

Menstrual Tension: Let the Battle Commence

Today we launched our latest piece of work for Mooncup, the innovative sanitary protection brand, pitting them against their main rival – the tampon – in a no-holds barred rap battle. Both “crews” represent the benefits of using their product in a feisty yet light-hearted way, giving women the information they need to make up their own minds about which product they want to champion.

Our work for Mooncup is always fun and attention grabbing. Our last print and outdoor campaign caused quite a stir, presenting a variety of different names that women often call their vaginas, such as “Bajingo” “Lady Garden” and “Fru Fru” alongside the website loveyourvagina.com, causing many a double-take on the morning commute.

We’ve even let Mooncup take over our Reception display here at St Luke’s, with our white shelves stacked with a whole array of feminine hygiene products. Quite an unusual display, I’m sure you’ll agree, but we’re an open-minded bunch.

The Mooncup Vs Tampon Rap Battle video can be found on the Mooncup Youtube, Facebook and Twitter pages, and then will direct viewers to the main site. We want to encourage as much sharing and discussion as possible, so get watching and hashtagging #mooncupvstampon #mooncupcrew.
