Let go to stimulate word of mouth

Oasis have recently taught buskers throughout NYC how to play the tracks off their new album. Another example of unconventional marketing practices slowly becoming the norm, and a great example of brands/bands increasing willingness to let go of control to stimulate buzz and eWOM.

Oasis have done some great stuff around their new album.

They gave away sheet music with the NME and encouraged people to upload their performances of the songs online before the album's release. So the first time you got to hear the songs was when you played it yourself.

Could it work for a brand? Could we get street performers to play the music from the next Magic ad?
